“I am often described by others as an unusually “self-aware” person. I think that’s true but it has not come naturally. I have throughout my adult life pursued various avenues of enlightenment through therapy, spiritual direction, meditation and life coaching. While I initially supposed that one eventually reached a point where one wanted to be, I have discovered that the search is life-long. Nothing is static and I must learn to change with the changes. More recently, I engaged in a life coaching package with Sonja—to be honest, wondering what such a young person could point out to me—the seasoned (and apparently ageist) searcher. But I am at one of those many crossroads in life—with work, family, faith—and want once again to gain some perspective.

My time with Sonja was truly well-spent.  Sonja is remarkably skilled at getting to the heart of the matter and suggesting ways (real ways) of addressing life concerns.  In a few months of once-a-week phone conversations, I experienced major insights which allowed me to make significant changes—changes that moved me toward my newly recognized goals. A good life coach like Sonja can weed through the extraneous data we throw up as a smokescreen and dig out the hard questions we try to hide. Surprisingly, it is so much easier to engage these questions.

As a result of this coaching process with Sonja, I have begun many positive steps. For example, I am on a consistently healthier diet and I have so much more energy. I have started the spiritual community I have been talking about for years now.  I have taken a break from some unusually demanding work and am discerning ways to use my gifts in other types of work.  I am establishing a regular meditation discipline and exploring ways to create some much needed relational space with my family and still be present.  I have become aware of those “gremlins” in my head that have successfully convinced me to abandon my goals.
